Attested translation, legal translation

We cannot entrust anyone with translating our most important official documents. For the vast majority of our official cases, which may even require legal background, documents with attested translations are necessary.
Attested translation is a translation which is accepted by offices, authorities as the accurate foreign language version of the original document.
The experts, jurists, lawyers competent in legal matters are frowning with a hiss of breath when they come across a mistranslation, whether they see it in a movie or in other television programmes. In the case of a movie, mistranslation is an inaccuracy with no consequences, but when it occurs in the wording of a contract, it is a serious mistake.
For example, it makes a difference whether we give a proxy or submit an order in connection with a certain case. Knowing the facts, it is not only practical to give our official documents to be translated to a legal translator who is an expert in the given field, but, in our own interest, it is also obligatory.
In this case we can be sure that the content of the legal translation will be equal to that of the original document. A legal translator knows the meaning of legal concepts, can distinguish them and even if he or she is uncertain in connection with an expression, he or she knows where to find a solution.
Our colleagues have an obligation of confidentality and our management system fully complies with data protection requirements. Your private or business documents are perfectly safe with us.

For whom do we recommend using our services of legal translation?

For those jurists, lawyers who make contracts, various motions for their clients in foreign languages, this service is indispensable, if they interpret or use foreign legislation for their Hungarian clients or Hungarian legislation for foreign clients.

Legal translations are also indispensable for shops and businesses which make tenders and conclude contracts in another country’s language and apply general terms and conditions.

For participants in procurement procedures and tenders for the authenticity of the related documents.

It is worth asking legal translators for help by individuals who experience encroachment on their rights abroad so that legislations will be translated professionally.

What needs to be given special attention when translating legal texts?

The topic of law requires special attention, since contracts, certificates or similar documents from all walks of life almost always have legal aspects. Even a technical text can refer to a section of law, making it necessary to require help from a legal translator. The design and production of means of transport are also limited by strict legislation. In connection of any machine related to an economic activity, legislation on labour safety as well as environmental and health restrictions must be complied. So wherever we are, the necessity of legal translations can occur in almost every area of our lives.

Legal language is quite difficult, it is enough to think of any famous lawsuit, which surprised all concerned and outsiders with newer and newer twists, because loopholes among regulations and the legal quibbling allows multiple interpretations even in one certain language. In order to create the most obvious situation possible, it is of high importance that the legal translator knows the meaning of legal terms, since legal language prefers vague wording and ambiguity.

What do jurists think about it?

According to jurists, this is not the case, of course, but if someone has ever got involved in a lawsuit where even obvious things were not obvious, they could tell us more about it.  Power seeks to apply statutory law, which also ties its own hands, within the widest possible framework. Public and private contracts, written arrangements, banking or insurance contracts, which are not closely related to legislation and legal acts, are abound in vague details. We do not have to look further, it is enough if we read some articles concerning foreign currency loans and we can find various explanations as to who is right, and of course the opposite of it in another piece of writing, which combined would be long enough for several volumes of books.

Another characteristic of legal texts are the intertwining multitude of endless sentences for which the sectioning of the text’s structure (the paragraphs, articles, points and subpoints) serves as an explanation, but there can be no doubt that, even if not directly, they can also help in making the point shrouded in mist. In the case of the legal translation of these sentences, one must follow the rule of parallel structure. It is worth entrusting co-workers of a legal translation agency with such tasks.
